NCR-SARE 2013 Queen Rearing Grant Insentive Project Foley's Russian Bees was awarded a 2013 grant to grow their queen rearing operation and make a hardier line of Russian bees well aclimated to North Central states. As part of our endevors we selected for wintering ability, mite resistance, and honey production. We also incorporated instrumental insemination in our operation to greatly control the genetics of the bees we produced. The project spanned 2013 through summer of 2014. As part of our grant we traveled to different Iowa Beekeeping clubs and provided information on our Russian Bees as well as offering free queens to clubs willing to participate by tracking the progress of the donated queens.

The interview kinda took what we were saying out of context and labeled it under the guise of location being key, but that wasn't what we were getting at as many of the more experienced may guess.
American Bee Journal We were featured in the October 2013 issue of American Bee Journal for our efforts with queen rearing of Russians.
B-Organic Story We are featured on a TV episode of B-Organic. If you would like, check out the blog and see some great photography of our beeyard and some fellow beekeepers in the Des Moines area. B-Organic Blog
